Aşadar, partea a patra a excursiei a început cu un mic dejun straşnic şi cu marmeladă făcută în casă. Mi-am dat seama ieri că maşina mea avea nevoie de puţin ulei: e normal pentru un asemenea motor să adaugi 1 litru de ulei la fiecare 5000 de kilometri. M-am uitat din nou sub capotă înainte de a pleca: a devenit un obicei zilele astea.

M-am oprit la o mică piaţă să-mi cumpăr ceva fructe pentru drum, apoi am apucat spre ultimele trecători: Col de Cuilleute şi Col de Turino.

Iarăşi, drumurile erau foarte înguste, aproape fără trafic, doar câţiva ciclişti dârzi. Am fost surprins să întâlnesc mulţi ciclişti trecuţi de prima tinereţe, femei în jur de 50 de ani sau chiar mai vârstnice. Incredibil cum se luptau în ascensiune! Apoi, marea surpriză: coborând din Col de Turino, dintr-o dată drumul se bloca. O avalanşă, se pare, a trecut pe-aici şi a luat şi o bucată de şosea cu ea acum câteva zile. Bine că nu eram în zonă atunci!…

Vegetaţia seamănă tot mai mult a Provence acum, că ne apropiem de mare. În sfărşit! Mă uit pe kilometraj: 3050 de kilometri din Bucureşti şi am reuşit! Marea arată superb în culorile ei verde şi albastru. Sus, în munţi, eram aproape singur: ce schimbare acum cu mulţimea de maşini şi turişti! În gândul meu traversam încă munţii, fiind doar eu şi maşina mea într-un fel de intimitate…

M-am cazat la hotelul Paris-Rome, m-am schimbat repede şi m-am aruncat în apa caldă. A fost recompensa pentru tot condusul din urmă. Mă bucuram lăsându-mă purtat de apă, gândindu-mă la zilele trecute. M-am răsfăţat până şi cu o cină specială în hotel, al cărui restaurant e binecunoscut datorită unui chef menţionat în ghidul Michelin!!! Bon appetit!

Mâine voi pleca înapoi spre România; voi avea 6000 de kilometri în plus… Ceea ce este cel mai important este că mi-am îndeplinit un vis, sunt recunoscător pentru clipele astea şi fericirea mi se citeşte în ochi. Câteodată, am învăţat, drumul în sine este plăcerea şi îţi dă satisfacţie, nu dorinţa de a ajunge cu orice preţ la destinaţie…

So part four of the trip started with a good breakfast and home made marmelade. I realised the day before that my car needed a little oil: it’s normal for such a car to add a liter or so every 5000 km. Again I opened the car before starting, it has become a habit these days.

I stopped over at a little market to buy some fruits for the trip. Then the way brought me up to the last cols, Col de Cuilleute, and after this Col de Turino.

Again, the roads up there where very narrow, nearly no traffic, only very tough cyclists. I was surprised to see a lot of older cyclists, also women around 50 or more. Incredible how they fight their way up! Then the big surprise, on the way down from Col deTurino, all of a sudden, the road was blocked, apparently a avalanche which took the road with it some days before, good that we were not here then!

The vegetation now looks really like provence and the sea, yes, it is approaching. Finally, and I looked on my counter, 3050 km since Bucharest, and I made it!!! The sea looks great in its green and blue colours. Up in the mountains, I was nearly alone, now what a change, cars everywhere and tourists too. In my mind I was still crossing the mountains, being with my car and myself in a very sort-of-intimacy…

I checked in in Paris-Rome hotel, changed quickly and jumped into- the warm water. It was the recompense for all this driving. I felt happy to let myself carried by the water, the past days flashed through my mind. In the evening I offered myself a nice dinner in the hotel, which also have a well known restaurant with a Michelin cook!!! Bon appetit!

Tomorrow we will go back to Romania, and I will have 6.000 km more on the counter… What is more important, however, is that I fullfilled myself a dream, I was grateful for the time, and happyness is in my eyes. Somethimes, I learned, the road itself is the pleasure and gives you satisfaction, not the stress to arrive by all means to a fixed destination…
