Chestionarul The Chronicle vs. William John Kennedy

Cei trei paşi prin care poţi lua un interviu fotografului care a respirat acelaşi aer cu Andy Warhol, în anii 1963-1964, sunt, în ordine cronologică, următorii: îţi târăşti existenţa la un târg de carte faimos, unde nu îţi cumperi cărţi, ci un vinyl The Velvet Underground & Nico, produs de Warhol; apoi, aştepţi două zile, până să-ţi pice în mână ultimul număr al revistei Intelligent Life, care, coincidenţă, tratează impactul şi consecinţele operelor lui Warhol; ca, într-un final, prin circumstanţe risipite, să te intersectezi cu expoziţia Before They Were Famous a lui William John Kennedy, inedită prin faptul că îi înfăţişează pe giganţii mişcării pop-art, Warhol şi Indiana, înainte de se fi ştiut de existenţa lor pe plan mondial. George Şerban: What book(s) are you reading now ?
William John Kennedy: I’ve been reading reviews, opinions and all of the commentary coming out about my work.

G.Ş.: What do you fear most ?
William John Kennedy: My wife.

G.Ş.: Electric or acoustic ?
William John Kennedy: Acoustic.

G.Ş.: What is truth ?
William John Kennedy: Life. And not believing anything anyone says.

G.Ş.: Where are you now ?
William John Kennedy: Sitting at the Kiwi Arts Group booth at SCOPE Miami surrounded by inspiring artwork and people.

G.Ş.: Do you believe in life after death ?
William John Kennedy: No. Life ends, lights go out, it’s the end of the show.

G.Ş.: What is the strangest thing that ever happened to you ?
William John Kennedy: My friend was travelling through Texas and brought back a box. When he dumped its contents on the floor, a rattle snake flew out. It came so close to me, I had to catch my breath.

G.Ş.: The most sentimental song you’ve listened to ?
William John Kennedy: The instrumental of Blue Moon.

G.Ş.: Do you like sushi ?
William John Kennedy: Love it.

G.Ş.: What’s to be done if the end of the world won’t come this year either ?
William John Kennedy: Pray it doesn’t come ever.

G.Ş.: What are you thinking when you hear about “human rights” ?
William John Kennedy: Racial equality.

G.Ş.: The thing you’re looking for but still haven’t found it ?
William John Kennedy: The apex in my own career, creating such thought-provoking work that everyone can appreciate from their own perspective.

G.Ş.: What is rationality’s purpose?
William John Kennedy: It serves none for me as an artist.

G.Ş.: Are you happy ?
William John Kennedy: When I’m with my wife Marie.

G.Ş.: A question for posterity ?
William John Kennedy: I was blessed to have a great aunt who introduced me to art. She was not only my mentor but one of the first women archeologists to excel in the field. She was a progressive thinker, completely open to the world.

William John Kennedy a studiat artele vizuale la Institutul Pratt şi la Universitatea Syracuse din New York. În anii ’50, a fost asistentul renumitului fotograf al publicaţiei Vogue, Clifford Coffin. În anii ’60, a reuşit să-i imortalizeze pe Andy Warhol şi Robert Indiana, cu câteva fracţiuni de secundă înainte să intre în istorie pentru o eternitate. Aceste fotografii, de o importanţă evidentă, au fost dezvăluite de W. F. Kennedy abia spre sfârşitul acestui an. William John Kennedy are împliniţi 81 (subliniez şi în litere: optzeci şi unu) de ani.
